Through old books, recycled bindings and yellowing pages a story is told about a boy
and a tree, about childhood and adolescence, about green fields that are lost
between grey concrete and about one green bud of hope.
Inspired by “The Giving Tree” (Shel Silverstein) and by “The Lorax” (Dr. Seuss.)
“A rare opportunity to see such a magnificent, well-balanced, heart-warming,
meaningful and professionally rendered performance for little children.” (Mr. Janos
Novak, President of AssiteJ Hungary)
“When All Was Green is a play without words but with a lot of sensitivity and soul
that succeeds in touching the hearts of the young ones and adults as well.
(Shai Bar-Ya’akov, Yediot Akhronot Newspaper)
Walking in the streets of Tel Aviv, looking at trees, finding abandoned old books
waiting for someone to take them home, we found a strong equivalent between
trees and books. Therefore, after collecting almost 100 old books, instead of being
thrown to the garbage, we recycled them into a set, objects and puppets. There was
no intention to hide the texture, thus printed words, in different languages can be
seen all over the visuals of the show
“When All Was Green” connects with numerous roots between ecology and co-
existence. It was performed in front of children from different cultures and
nationalities and they all responded the same. Without words, through ecological
representation, they realize the immense damage we are causing to each other by
our own hands. They watch the tree being cut off, the delicate balance between
mankind and nature being broken and they realize that it’s equivalent to the balance
between friends, countries, and sectors in society. Because it is a play without words
it allows every spectator to tell himself his own story, what’s close to his heart.
“When All Was Green” was premiered at The International Puppet Festival,
Holon, Israel July 2012 and participated festivals in Turkey, Hungary,
Senegal, Korea, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Armenia. Next tours for 2015 : Expo
Milano, Taiwan, Slovenia, Japan, Kosovo, Norway and Poland.
